This group no longer exists, it has been amalgamated with the Prehistory Appreciation Group and is now called Millom
History Group which meets the first Satuday of the month at Millom Library, 10-12.
Millom Detectorists is a group set up by Millom and District Local History Society. It began in August 2023 and meets the first Saturday of the month, 10-12 noon at Millom Library.
The aims of the group are to support and encourage responsible metal detecting in Millom District and, in so doing, celebrate and help to uncover the amazing local history.
Objectives are to:
1. meet monthly in an accessible venue (Millom Library);
2. work with Millom and District Local History Society;
3. work with local Finds Liaison Officer;
4. work with local farmers/land owners;
5. agree to follow the country code;
6. support members to develop good practise;
7. support and facilitate members to report finds to Finds Liaison Officer;
8. share knowledge with and help members identify objects;
9. apply for funding for relevant equipment for supervised use by members, eg metal detecting equipment, scales, callipers.
Membership Rules
1. Membership is open to anyone who is interested in metal detecting and lives or works in
the vicinity of Millom District.
2. Members must agree with the aims and objectives of MD and sign up to the Rules
of Membership.
3. All members must become members of the National Council for Metal Detecting and
follow their rules of good practise; (£8 a year which covers insurance).
4. Members must complete and sign Membership Form and provide evidence of Membership of NCMD.
5. Members must be a minimum of 18 years old. For anyone younger they must come with an adult member.
6. Millom Detectorists reserve the right to terminate membership if a member does not follow the group rules or brings the group (or Millom and District Local History Society) into disrepute.
7. Members must sign for use of the metal detecting equipment that belongs to Millom and District Local History Society.
Accepted and amended after meeting of MD on 3rd February 2024; further amendments at a meeting of Millom and District Local History Society held on 5th February 2024.
